About the Course

Foldforming and Torch Fired Enameling with Beth Carter-Gautsch

In this workshop, students will learn how to foldform copper to create dramatic new 3-dimensional forms through the process of hammering, folding, unfolding, and heating the metal. They will then fuse powdered enamel glass onto the copper foldform shapes using the open flame of the torch to make multiple torch-fired elements. This process will introduce students to one of the oldest methods to decorate metal through enameling in addition to the foldforming technique developed by Charles Lewton-Brain in the 1980's. Students will have the opportunity to turn several of their pieces into finished earrings or pendants. All levels are welcome.
