Introduction to Handbuilding

October 1, 8, 15, 22

Thursdays from 6:30pm - 8:30pm

This is an entry-level course intended to provide a broad overview of various techniques

for handbuilding with clay. This includes sculptural and functional construction, using

techniques such as pinching, coil building, and slab building. Knowledge of tools, glaze,

and cleaning will be covered. Students can expect to have 2-3 detailed, finished works.

Mixed Level Handbuilding

October 29 + November 5, 12, 19

Thursdays from 6:30pm - 8:30pm

This is an intermediate-level course intended to hone our skills handbuilding with clay

using coils, slabs, and a variety of surface decoration techniques. Knowledge of firing

processes, tools, glaze, cleaning, and proper studio maintenance will be covered. We

will also discuss themes and techniques within our work, as well as historical and

contemporary ceramics as a group. Students can expect to have 2-3 detailed, finished

works.
